Tornado Rocks Georgia Dome and Atlanta

As if the stadium wasn’t rocking enough with the Mississippi State vs Alabama game

The storm smashed hundreds of skyscraper windows, blew furniture and luggage out of hotel rooms, crumbled part of an apartment building and rattled a packed sports arena.

Streets around the Georgia Dome, Phillips Arena, the CNN Center and Centennial Olympic Park were littered with broken glass, downed power lines, crumbled bricks, insulation and the occasional office chair. Billboards collapsed onto parked cars.

Eeek…Must have been a scary night for the MSU/Alabama fans…I wouldn’t have wanted to been in that arena during the tornado.

Twenty-seven people were injured due to the tornado, and several downtown buildings were damaged.  This is a first for Atlanta history; no tornado has ever hit the downtown area.

I’m also currently watching the Georgia/Kentucky game at Georgia Tech’s basketball court.  Man, whoever wins this game is going to be at a terrible disadvantage versus the MSU Bulldogs tonight.  It’s a good game, though - very close, and a very defensive game.

I just hope that my local station continues to cover the semifinals tonight.  Otherwise, I’ll be very disappointed.  I’m hoping to liveblog the semifinal game tonight (if I can watch it at home), so stay tuned.  I’ll update you if it isn’t shown on our local station.

Wintry weather is here - but not here

I’m a little upset.  Wintry weather is moving in to the Deep South, but not in the Deep South.  Here’s the forecast for tonight here:

Cloudy. Chance of rain showers in the evening…then slight chance of rain mixed with snow after midnight. Lows in the lower 30s. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation 30 percent. Little to no accumulation expected.

Now Jackson is getting snow.  Starkville (MSU) is getting snow…Hattiesburg may get snow, too!  But noo!  Not Lucedale!

Oh well…Guess I’ll have to wait ’til next year.

Ded tahred…

…because I was up all (well, most) of the night watching the bad weather roll on through.  About every 10-15 minutes they came on with a weather alert.  Like I said last night, I have never seen so many potential tornadoes.  I’m just waiting for more news articles about the damage (hopefully no one was seriously hurt).

Oh, and I heard this morning that it’s going to be cold tonight.  We’re going to have a high of 55 degrees (which we already had at 6:30 this morning) and a low in the low 30’s.

I wish this weather would make up its mind.

Oh, one more thing…Anyone going to be watching the election results?  I won’t.  I’ll be sleeping.

Update:  Storms injure 14 at Camp Shelby
