Treason in America - or is it?

This guy turns my stomach.  The fact that he is allowed to spew his venom on American Soil makes me angry.

…But could it be considered treason?

Yousef al-Khattab, who runs RevolutionMuslim.com from his home in Queens, told FOX News that he also wants the U.S. to embrace Islam and Sharia Law, which prohibits alcohol and can include stoning to death or severe flogging for pre-marital sex and adultery.

Calling for Sharia Law - in my opinion - sounds like a threat to attempt to overthrow the U.S. government.  That could be very dangerous, and should be considered treason or at the very least, sedition.

In our past, those who tried to incite violence against or overthrow our government were met with quick justice - a short drop and a sudden stop (execution by hanging).  Where have those days gone?  How can we call this freedom of speech?

The Fox News article also states some of the things he has on his web site:

  • The Statue of Liberty, with an ax blade cutting through her side;
  • Video mocking the beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl, entitled “Daniel Pearl I am Happy Your Dead :) “;
  • Video of a puppet show lampooning U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq;
  • The latest speech from Sheikh Abdullah Faisal, an extremist Muslim cleric convicted in the UK and later deported for soliciting the murder of non-Muslims.

Even more surprising is that al-Khattab runs his site from his home in Queens, New York.

Another thing - if he has videos of this Sheikh that was convicted in Britain, I would consider that aiding and abetting the enemy - supporting terrorism.  He should be arrested and tried for that.  That is not patriotism; it is not love of his country.

Why don’t you go ahead and go to Iraq or Afghanistan, Mr. al-Khattab?  We do not want you here.  Go join your friends - then maybe you’ll be met with swift justice from our true patriots - our soldiers.

God bless the USA!

A Lively Discussion

It’s amazing what will bring out the best, or worst, in people. The commutation of Lewis “Scooter” Libby’s prison sentence yesterday has done just that. Here’s some of what some people are saying…

First, Joe Wilson, Valerie Plame’s husband:

The president short-circuited our system of justice by giving Scooter Libby a get-out-of-jail free card, thereby eliminating any incentive that he would tell the truth to the prosecutor, guarantees that there is a cloud of suspicion put over the Office of the President and makes him potentially a suspect in an ongoing obstruction of justice case.

This is just outright absurd. Libby didn’t even ouster Plame. The prosecutor knew that from the beginning. If anyone has short-circuited our system of justice, it was the special prosecutor and Joe Wilson. Richard Armitage, who outed Plame to Robert Novak, wasn’t even charged.

Next, here’s the “infallible” Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr.’s (D.-Ill.) statement:

It is beyond unthinkable that the president would undermine the legal process to protect a man who engaged in treason against the United States government, threatening the security of the American people.

This is definitely the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. How did Libby engage in treason?? Jackson needs to go back to school and learn what treason really is.  All Libby is guilty of is lying about something he previously said.

For a very interesting discussion of these events, go here and join in. I already have!

Comprehensive Immigration Reform, Post-”Shamnesty”, Part One

Ever since the “shamnesty” immigration reform bill failed last week, I have been thinking about what we, as Americans, can get our representatives to do to combat the waves of illegal immigrants coming into this country. Some of the following strategies have been proposed by others, but I want to put my rationale on these tips:

  1. Enforce current immigration laws. If these were enforced the way they should be, we would not be in the fix we are now.
  2. Build the 700-mile fence along the Southern border. Here is the text of the Secure Fence Act of 2006. It was enacted on October 26, and requires that two sections of fence be built by December 31, 2008: the stretch between Calexico, California and 300 miles east of Douglas, Arizona (by May 30, 2008); and the stretch between 300 miles NW of Laredo, Texas to Brownsville, Texas. That’s a pretty good bit of fence to construct, and a very good start.  As of today, I think only around 14-15 miles of fence exists, and that is mostly around San Diego.
  3. Add to U.S. Code Title 8, Chapter 12, Subchapter II, Part II, Section 1182(a)(1)(A) that any woman who is within her final two trimesters of pregnancy is inadmissible to the United States. This would eliminate the “anchor baby” effect.
  4. Amend U.S. Code Title 8, Chapter 12, Subchapter III, Part I, Section 1401(a) to read: “a person born within the United States, of parents one of whom is a citizen of the United States, and the other being no less than a national of the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof;” This would also reduce the “anchor baby” effect by requiring that at least one parent be a citizen of the United States and the other at least a national. This would also eliminate the splitting up of families.
  5. Add to U.S. Code Title 8, Chapter 12, Subchapter II, Part IV, Section 1222(b) that during the physical and mental examination administered to the aliens as they come into the country, that fingerprints need to be taken and a background check performed.  Once the background check is completed and is satisfactory (i.e. They are not terrorists, have not committed any felonies, have not been previously deported, etc.) they will be allowed entry into the United States.  In addition, they should be given the tamper-proof ID cards with RFID chips so they can be tracked.  They should also have to check in regularly with INS - especially when changing jobs or changing addresses.

This is just some quick research I’ve done on our current immigration and naturalization laws. I will definitely post more later.

I am a terrorist, too, Kat

Mrs. Katherine Coble over at Just Another Pretty Farce has an article on domestic terrorism in Alabama - apparently anyone who is opposed to “big” government can be considered a domestic terrorist.  According to their wide-sweeping definition, even poor little ol’ me could be considered a terrorist.

 I checked the Mississippi Department of Homeland Security (MSDHS) just to make sure that they didn’t have anything like that over there - and as far as I can see, they don’t.  So I guess I’m safe for now from a local point of view!  Of course, I wouldn’t ever try to blow anything up or kill a bunch of soldiers like the “Fort Dix Six” - which I don’t consider homegrown terrorists.  Three of them were here illegally, so how could they be considered “homegrown” if they’re not citizens?  Just stuns me how some government officials could not see that (or maybe they don’t want to see that Al-Qaeda could be over here) after 9/11.

 Anyway, check out the MSDHS website here.  Please go there and make sure I didn’t miss anything, will ya?

NC Weighs Using Koran, other Non-Christian texts during court proceedings

I find this article very interesting…and not for the reason you think.

Apparently, a Muslim woman hired the ACLU to sue North Carolina because she was refused the use of the Koran to swear by in court.  Apparently some Jewish members of the ACLU would like the option to swear on the Old Testament, also.

The lawsuit argues that state law is unconstitutional because it favors Christianity over other religions. It seeks a court order clarifying that the law is broad enough to allow the use of multiple religious texts, or else rule the statute unconstitutional.

I say rule the statute unconstitutional.   Here’s my reasoning:  The Bible warns against swearing and taking any oath:

But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and [your] nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

–James 5:12

And also right out of Jesus’ mouth:

Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:  But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:  Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.  Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.  But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

                                    –Matthew 5:33-37

So, go ahead and make it unconstitutional.  But then don’t allow anyone else to swear on the Torah, Koran, Blue’s Clues, etc.  Just make them say “Yes” or “No” and hold them to it.

Supreme Court Upholds Partial Birth Abortion Ban

As you probably know by now, the United States Supreme Court has ruled 5-4 that partial birth abortions are illegal.

La Shawn Barber has an excellent post on it.

I, for one, am appalled and have been appalled at this practice ever since I first heard about it.  I’m not going to say much about it, though, because I can’t add any more to what Ms. Barber has already said.  I will say this, though…Thanks, Ms. Barber for speaking out on this issue and the moral implications of it.

Tax Fun

Well, last night I had fun trying to submit my tax returns.  It only took me about two hours to go through the software, but it took me over four hours to submit it to the IRS.  Apparently Intuit’s (the makers of Turbotax) servers were overloaded last night.  In fact, this morning on the radio, I heard they were so overloaded that the servers crashed.  They were getting over 60 returns every second!  Wow!

No wonder it took me so long…
