A Pound of Thoughts

Update (1:23 p.m.):   Per the same website (MichelleMalkin.com), Cochran voted Nay on the cloture vote…So I’ll have to strike through some of what I wrote below…I reserve the right to leave some of what I said standing - for now - until the passage vote is done.

According to this article at MM.com, the shamnesty bill cloture vote has passed, 64-35.  That means the bill gets pushed further into review by the Senate.  Among the votes for cloture?  Mississippi’s own Thad Cochran and Trent Lott.

Now is the time, folks of Mississippi.  I dare say that Cochran & Lott have been in Washington too long.  They are ignoring their constituents to their own political peril.  (Although Trent Lott has been pretty much useless since the whole Strom Thurmond gaffe).  I, personally, am committed to seeing new leadership for Our Great State.  If our senators have no respect for our intelligence and our desires for this nation, then they need to go.  It’s that simple.  And we have the power to change the landscape.

We can always send Trent Lott back to tend to his goats.

According to this morning’s news on The Sun Herald, Raymundo Rojas Garcia fled the scene of the accident because he admits “he was an illegal immigrant facing almost certain deportation once he was captured”.  Really?  The government actually deports illegal aliens?  Hmmm….

According to the article I linked to above, Rojas Garcia had a previous run-in with the law:

Gulfport police arrested Garcia, 27, the morning of June 17 on a misdemeanor drunk driving charge and other traffic violations. He was detained overnight and later fined.

If the government deported illegal aliens, then this guy wouldn’t have been able to drive a red Chevrolet pickup with no license, no insurance, and an expired tag and then murder two innocent U.S. citizens.  This just outrages me.  Do you hear me?? I’M OUTRAGED!!

Gulfport Deputy Chief Alfred Sexton said Monday that a hold has been placed on Garcia pending confirmation of his immigration status. However, Sexton said Garcia admitted to police that he was an illegal immigrant. Even so, Sexton said, Garcia likely would face criminal charges here before deportation.

Well, I should only hope so.  This is becoming an all-too-common occurrence, all over the nation.  Some get more national media coverage, and hopefully I can, in some meager way, bring national attention to yet another slaying of U.S. citizens by yet another illegal alien.

In getting an update on the news earlier, I found three articles on people being murdered by family members and one by an (as of now) non-related person - four cases total.  And I’m sure that these are not all.  Three have not been widely reported; one has been reported non-stop.  Here’s the links, if you want to read.  First, let me warn you, you’ll come away depressed:

Nine-month pregnant mom and her unborn baby murdered.

Eight-month pregnant mom and her unborn baby murdered.

What has this world come to?  Who could - in their right mind - murder a woman who is about to give birth?  It just turns my stomach to think there are such cruel, mindless, cold-blooded lower-than-scum people out there.  My prayers are with the Jessie Davis family; they will finally get to have some sort of closure.  As far as I know, the North Carolina woman, Jennifer Nielsen, her murderer has not been found.

And to the truly innocent victims - Chloe Davis and Ethen Nielsen - they never even had a chance to grace the world with their presence and to make their mark on it.  At least they’re with their Lord and Saviour in Heaven.

I say we need to go back to the days of “drawn and quartered” - publicly.  Maybe that would be a good deterrant of these types of crimes.
