Birthday celebration - mexican style

This time of year (from late May to October) is a big time for birthdays.  As I reported earlier, we had birthday celebrations last week for my niece, Hannah.  Last month we celebrated for Andrew, Shawn, and Katie, as well as my brother Sandy.

Tonight, we are gathering at a local Mexican restaurant to celebrate the birthdays of two of my sisters, Peg and Dragon Fairy.  I will be taking my camera, so I’ll get some good pictures tonight.  I just don’t know what I’ll order - chimichangas or chilaquiles??

Afterwards, we are going to Dragon Fairy’s house to eat cake and ice cream.  I’ll get some pictures then, too.

I just hope I don’t eat too much.  Until later…

Update (2:08 a.m. Sunday morning):

A niece birthday photoblog

July 21st was my niece’s birthday, and I haven’t uploaded any of the photos to Flickr yet.  So, here’s some select photos that I think are the best and summarize the evening.

Gathering around the bar

Here’s a picture of some of my family members and my sister-in-law’s family members gathering around her bar, celebrating that little blonde in the front’s birthday.

"Hello Kitty" birthday cake

Here’s Hannah’s birthday cake, which is actually a big chocolate chip cookie with a “Hello Kitty” theme.

Here’s the “Three Musketeer” cousins, all born the same year - 1993.  Alyssa, born January 30; Daniel, born October 5; and Katie, born July 16.  They make quite a team (especially when they wrestle their uncle!)

Here’s a Birthday Cake For Karen

I have been looking all over the internet for a picture of a birthday cake for my sister, and I think I’ve finally found one on Flickr!  So, KK, here ya go!

Happy 37th Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Karen!

Fun in the Sun, Day One

Well, our trip here is almost done, and it’s barely begun. K and I arrived here late Thursday night, after stopping in Mobile to grab a bite at Romano’s Macaroni Grill. We’re staying at The Beach Club in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Unfortunately, we have to leave tomorrow morning to resume everyday life. But, I thought I’d include you in a little bit of our action yesterday.

We got up yesterday morning and enjoyed wonderful breakfast buffet that included everything from grits and eggs to biscuits with sawmill gravy and muffins. We were so full it was unbelievable. Then after that we decided to take a little trip down to the beach.

This is our path to the beach. Straight ahead from our cottage is the clubhouse, with the condo towers on either side.

My wife, her brother, his wife, and our nephew Noah, as well as my wife’s parents, and myself of course, are staying in a three-bedroom, three-bath cottage. This an outside view of our cottage:

This is the living area. It’s very nice. There’s a high definition TV in every room:

Here’s the kitchen:

And here’s the hot tub:

Here’s a view of the hot tub and the grill. The grill is awesome. That’s where I spent last night grilling hot dogs and hamburgers, as well as some brats. Tonight I’ll be grillin’ porkchops and steaks. :)

And last but not least, here’s a picture of the beach. It was a little windy and cool yesterday; maybe today won’t be as bad.

Don’t you wish you were here? I guess I need to be going - I need to go marinate the steaks and porkchops, and then head to the beach! Until tomorrow!

Winning Your Battles

In my daily readings book, today’s topics is winning spiritual battles.   It states, "God’s man cannot win his battles without boundaries."  It really got me thinking.  It is a very true statement.  We, as men, need to come up with a "battle plan", if you will, complete with putting on the "Armor of God".  I will be honest and say that I have lost some battles, strictly because I wasn’t prepared.  But, here’s a list from my daily reading of what boundaries we could set for ourselves.  You ready?  Here we go:

Leading the Home

I’m going to start this post by saying, I have not done these steps like I should.  Reading this passage in Every Day for Every Man has stirred a desire for a renewal in my heart.  I want to be this kind of man.  I know that the road will be hard, because the devil does not want the family to succeed.  But, I resolve to become the leader of the home as God intended.

Happy Birthday, Julia!

Today is my niece Julia’s 5th birthday!  Happy Birthday, sweetheart!  I hope your daddy and mama gets you everything you want!

I think she is going to have her a tea party today with her friends…It’s kind of a tradition - her big sister Hannah had one when she turned five.

Noah’s First Birthday Slide Show

Here’s a slide show of my nephew Noah Wallace’s first birthday, which we celebrated on March 25.  I’ll be adding all of these photos to my photo album later.
