Pit Bulls attack sleeping woman

Now this story is of the bizarre…How would you like to be awakened like this woman was?

Two pit bull terriers broke into a house through a pet door Tuesday and attacked a woman in her bed, mauling her badly, a Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman said.

The woman was able to grab a gun and try to shoot the dogs, then break away from the attack and lock herself in her car, where she called 911, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The woman, who was not immediately identified, was taken to a hospital in Tacoma, where she was listed in serious condition.

Officers planned to talk to the dogs’ owner.

I’m sure these pit bulls will not be alive much longer.  And in my humble opinion, all pit bulls should be destroyed because of their genetic predisposition for violence.  What do you think?

Back from the sea

It’s hard to believe that it has been three weeks since I last posted on here. Where does the time go?? And what has taken my attention that I haven’t been able to post on here regularly? Well, last week I was quite literally out to sea. (Work-related.) The two weeks before that - who knows?!

Oh well. That time is lost. Now it’s time to re-enter the world of the blog-o-sphere-o. So what have you guys and gals been up to since I’ve been on hiatus?

Post away your activities in the comments.

Chief Justice John Roberts Suffers a Seizure

From Earth Times:

U S Chief Justice Roberts was rushed to hospital after suffering a seizure at his Maine home, a Supreme Court spokeswoman confirmed. She however added that Roberts was fully recovered, but would stay overnight at the hospital purely as a precautionary measure.

Roberts, who is one of the youngest of the Court justices, previously suffered a similar seizure in 1993, but has no medical issues to account for it. Seizures typically occur because of abnormal electrical activity within the brain.

Let us all keep him in our prayers. Apparently it is not very serious, but still there is always the risk of things like this becoming serious.

Bush Administration Planning $20 Billion in Arms to Saudis

I don’t know what to think of this; It really does make me nervous, considering we’re giving this much to an Islamic country that doesn’t really agree with us on a lot of issues, especially Israel and Iraq. I think we should be giving Israel 2-3 times what we give any Islamic country. What say you?

clipped from www.foxnews.com
The Bush administration will be asking Congress to approve a $20 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia and neighboring Gulf states despite the concerns of some U.S. officials that the Saudis have been hampering U.S. efforts in Iraq, the New York Times reported Saturday.
The size of the proposed package, which would include advanced weaponry, has made Israel and its supporters in Congress “nervous,” the Times reported. The administration is expecting Israeli supporters and Saudi critics in Congress to oppose the deal when it is formally presented to Congress this fall.
To resolve these concerns, the administration has promised Israel $30.4 billion in military aid over the next decade, and is asking the Saudis to accept restrictions on the “range, size and location of the satellite-guided bombs” and to agree not to store the weapons near Israeli territory, a U.S. official told the Times.

Update: Charges in motorcycle deaths may be upgraded

Remember when I told you about the Saucier, Mississippi couple killed on their motorcycle by an illegal immigrant? Now there’s more to the story than what I initially told you here and here.

An illegal immigrant accused of fleeing the scene of a fatal crash faces an upgraded charge if a blood sample shows he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol when a Saucier couple was killed.

Raymoundo Rojas Garcia, accused in the June 24 crash that killed a couple riding a motorcycle, remains in custody on an immigrations hold pending resolution of charges in the deaths of Wayne and Michelle Hughes. A blood sample taken from Garcia after the crash has been sent to a crime lab, according to testimony at a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Apparently the loser inmigrante ilegal, otherwise known as a cabrón was driving under the influence…Go figure.  (Doesn’t really surprise me, and it shouldn’t surprise you, either.)

USA Today: “Linguists seek the ‘mother of all languages’”

I find this very interesting.  Given my interest for several “historical” languages - like Icelandic - this really got my proverbial ears perked.

A controversial research project is trying to trace all human language to a common root. Many scientists think that fully modern human language enabled a “great leap forward” 50,000 years ago. And because scientists surmise that language arose only once, they believe that before leaving Africa to colonize the world, all humankind spoke as one.

"You’re Aiding the Enemy"

I love the way news organizations connect dots. This article makes me laugh, but it also angers me.

First off, New York Senator and Democratic Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton wants the Department of Defense (DoD) to start preparing plans for withdrawal from Iraq. Now, I must say, she is not president. Therefore, she can’t make that order. So, I have to agree with the Undersecretary of Defense when he says the following:

Premature and public discussion of the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq reinforces enemy propaganda that the United States will abandon its allies in Iraq, much as we are perceived to have done in Vietnam, Lebanon and Somalia.

The DoD is responsible for military matters - not a senator. She should just let them do their jobs, and she should do hers (whatever that would be).

Secondly, somehow the Associated Press (AP) somehow connected this story with Dick Cheney and what he said about Kerry and Edwards in 2004! Read this segue:

Edelman is the Undersecretary of defense for policy. He is also a former U.S. ambassador and one-time aide to Vice President Dick Cheney. During the 2004 campaign, Cheney told Iowa voters that electing the Democratic ticket of John Kerry and John Edwards would risk another terrorist attack.

Now tell me - what has THAT got to do with the DoD telling Clinton where she should stick it, like they should have?

Al-Qaeda Leader Nabbed in Iraq!

Per Fox News:

The U.S. command said Wednesday the highest-ranking Iraqi in the leadership of Al Qaeda in Iraq has been arrested, adding that information from him indicates the group’s foreign-based leadership wields considerable influence over the Iraqi chapter.

Khaled Abdul-Fattah Dawoud Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, also known as Abu Shahid, was captured in Mosul on July 4, said Brig. Gen. Kevin Bergner, a military spokesman.

Way to go troops!  This is a major strategic victory for our troops, if not a major psychological victory.  I know they’ll continue to put the squeeze on AQI over the next few weeks and months, and hopefully before too long we’ll hear of several more arrests and killings of the Al-Qaeda murderers.  Keep up the good work, guys, and my prayers are with you!

A First Lady of Mississippi passes away

Mississippi lost a great First Lady today.  Per Sun Herald:

Pat Fordice, ex-wife of the state’s first Republican governor in modern times and a tireless campaigner for several charity causes, died Thursday at her home in Madison after battling cancer. She was 72.

I wasn’t very fond of her husband’s governing ability, and not just because of him being a Democrat.  But this lady was a very classy lady.  How he ended up with her I’ll never know.  They did divorce in 2000, and he died of leukemia in 2004 at the age of 70.

I think this summarizes how most Mississippians feel about former First Lady Pat Fordice:

State Rep. Rita Martinson, R-Madison, said Pat Fordice would be remembered for her family values and integrity.

“She was one of the ‘Steel Magnolias’ that you hear about,” Martinson said. “She stood by her principles at times when other people may have buckled. She stood firmly her ground in keeping her marriage intact as long as she possibly could.”

My prayers are with her family, and may she rest in peace.
