What a weekend!
This weekend has been the best weekend for football. Friday night, my high school alma mater, George County High School, beat the unbeaten team, Ocean Springs, 21 - 0!! You’re talkin’ about good football! A team that was scoring an average of 35 points per game was held from scoring any points! They were also held from getting within their own 38 yard line! There were numerous penalties, but most were against Ocean Springs, a number of them were facemask penalties (most of which were quite obvious).
Then yesterday, my college alma mater, Mississippi State University, played at home against the University of Alabama. Alabama was
(note, I said was) ranked 21st in the nation. Alabama scored first, scoring three unanswered field goals. Then, the Bulldogs were able to score a field goal, making it 9 - 3. Alabama then went on an impressive drive to try and score a touchdown. They were on the two-yard line, and John Parker Wilson dropped back to make a pass. MSU’s cornerback, Anthony Johnson, anticipated the pass. He made the interception two yards behind the goal line, ran the full length of the field, and was able to score a touchdown for MSU! A one-hundred-yard return!! State led the game 10-9 at this point. Later, MSU made another touchdown and Alabama was able to score another field goal, but it wasn’t enough. State defeated the No. 21 Alabama Crimson Tide 17 - 12!! Now State is on their way to going to the Independence Bowl for the first time since 2000!
We also had a pretty good breakfast yesterday morning at my parents’ house. It was a traditional southern breakfast: eggs, grits, bacon, patty sausage, Conecuh link sausage, and homemade biscuits. Yum, yum!
