Tonight is “The Clash of the Titans”

I know I really haven’t been covering high school football, simply because I haven’t been going to the games. My alma mater, George County High School, has really been doing good this year in football. As a matter of fact, they are ranked number two statewide in the Associated Press Poll, per the Sun Herald. But tonight, the Region 4-5A champion will be decided.

GCHS plays at home tonight versus Ocean Springs High School, who is 9-0 overall this year, 6-0 in division. George County is 9-1 overall, 6-0 in the division. Their only loss was to Wayne County High School, who is 7-3 overall, 3-3 in their division, Region 5-4A (Source: MaxPreps Sports). Wayne County versus George County has always been a tough rivalry.

Both Ocean Springs and George County are guaranteed to host the first week of playoffs next week, so as far as that goes, this game doesn’t dictate that. But it is for the division championship, so it should be a close, tough game. I will definitely be there, and I’m sure that most of Lucedale and Ocean Springs will be, too.
