Brain-Eating Amoeba Kills Arizona Teen

It sounds like something out of a horror movie:  A “blob” that attacks its victims through the nose and eats the brain.  Sadly, it’s not a movie; it’s real.  Per Fox News:

An Arizona teen became the sixth victim this year of Naegleria fowleri, a brain-eating amoeba that enters through the nasal cavity and quickly devours the brain; officials said he picked it up while swimming in Lake Havasu.

How very sad…My prayers go out to the family.

Getting the Number One Sign

huh?? Today on the way home from work I witnessed the epitome of the idiocy that is plaguing our country.  Let me set the scene for you.

The road to my house from where I work is a four-lane highway.  I was in the right northbound lane.  There is a stop light, and on the right side of the road is a McDonald’s.  So, I decided to stop there and get some supper.  (Yes, I know…not very healthy.)

Keep in mind that at this stop light you have to turn right to get to the McD’s.  The light turns red, and I prepare to stop.  By the way - Here’s the lane layout:  left turn lane, left NB, and right NB - NO right turn lane!  But, there is a wide shoulder.  As I look to the right and start my turn, one car comes flying by me on the shoulder (turning right) and another car stops right beside me at the light ON THE SHOULDER!  I look at the driver, he looks back at me, and I proceed turning right.

I turn left on the service road, then turn right into the McDonald’s and get in the drive-thru line.  As I am doing this, I notice in my rear-view mirror that a car eerily similar to the one who stopped by me at the light (on the shoulder) was behind me.  As I stop in the drive-thru, a horn honks.  It’s the idiot driver, all right.  He drives by me with the “special” number one sign held up, mouthing f*** you…and on the back bumper I noticed a bumper sticker that said “Aryan”.

I’ve always wondered what possesses people, when they see a wide shoulder, to drive on it.  (IT’S FOR EMERGENCIES, PEOPLE!!!!)  Unfortunately “Neo-Nazi” didn’t stick around for me to ask him.  He must of noticed that I didn’t even flinch as he was telling me I was “number one”.  Let’s just say that I was ready to…well, I need to keep this a “G” blog, so I won’t go there.  I’ll just leave it to your imagination.

House votes to tighten “noose” on Iran

The U.S. House of Representatives voted yesterday to tighten existing sanctions on Iran, even as its President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was preparing to address the United Nations General Assembly.

The billed passed on a 396-17 vote, according to Fox News.

Here’s a general breakdown on what the bill is designed to do:

  • Directs President Bush to determine whether the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, the country’s elite paramilitary forces, should be (1) designated a foreign terrorist organization,  (2) placed on the list of designated global terrorists or (3) placed on the list of weapons of mass destruction proliferators and supporters
  • Gives money to the Treasury Department’s Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, which monitors and cuts off the flow of money to terror groups
  • Authorizes the President to carry out exchange programs with the people of Iran
  • Authorizes the President to reduce U.S. contributions to the World Bank in direct proportion to funds provided by the bank to entities and projects in Iran
  • Restricts nuclear cooperation with countries aiding Iran’s nuclear program or transferring advanced conventional weapons there
  • Amends the Internal Revenue Code to eliminate specified geological and geophysical expense amortization benefits if petroleum-related sanctions are imposed under the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996 on any member of an expanded affiliated group whose common parent is a foreign corporation. Revises the definition of “affiliated group.”

I’m just wondering if these sanctions are going to work; apparently, they haven’t worked thus far.

Quote of the Day - September 26, 2007

I have found it advisable not to give too much heed to what people say when I am trying to accomplish something of consequence. Invariably they proclaim it can’t be done. I deem that the very best time to make the effort.

Hometown gets a little bigger

I heard it on the radio this morning, and read it later on an online newspaper.  My hometown is getting a little bigger.  Per the Sun Herald:

Chancery Court Judge Jaye Bradley has approved the city’s plan to annex nearly 2.4 square miles north and west of current city boundaries.

I’ve been wondering how long it would take after they built two major bypasses around the city.  Now it appears that all that land will become part of the big city of L’dale.  It’s about time!

Who loves Ahmadinejad?

A lot of leftists, it seems…I didn’t get to watch the speeches that Neo-Hitler gave yesterday, and I will probably search for them when I get home tonight on Youtube.  But, according to The Right Wing Nuthouse, several “academians” - if you can call them that - actually cheered some of what “Iwantajihad” had to say.

Here’s a list of blog posts that reference their “adoration” of Mr. Mahmoud “Adolf” Hitler:

And that’s just a few…Scary, isn’t it?

Ideals are like stars: you will not succeed in touching them with your hands, but like the seafaring man on the ocean desert of waters, you choose them as your guides, and following them, you reach your destiny.

Scofield is in Trouble - Again!

Last night was a very exciting night for me.  You see, last night was my “season premiere” night for Prison Break.  If you’ve been sleeping under a rock lately, PB is a series about two brothers, Lincoln Burrows and Michael Scofield, who are caught up in a hailstorm of trouble with people known as “The Company”.  This year is season three.  Season One was dedicated to Michael figuring a way to get “Link” (or is it “Linc”?) out of Fox River State Penitentiary in Chicago, IL.  (He was in prison for allegedly assassinating the Vice-President’s brother.)  Season Two was dedicated to them breaking out and staying out of prison, and also trying to hunt down five million! dollars in cash, secretly stashed by a fellow inmate.  They also had to outrun and outsmart a very intelligent and ruthless FBI agent, Alex Mahone, who was secretly hired by “The Company” to kill all the escapees.

At the end of last season, the President (formerly Vice-President) stepped down, Linc was exonerated, and Michael was re-captured by “The Company”.  Michael was thrown into a prison in Panama known as “Sona”.  We learned last season that the reason he was thrown in there was to break out.  We just didn’t know why, until last night (at least for me).

Well, the actual season premiere for the show was actually last week, a fact I didn’t realize until I started watching the show last night (and was somewhat lost).  But, thankfully, FOX had it to where I could watch last week’s episode online (Thanks, FOX!!!)  Now we know that Michael has to “break out” of Sona with a prisoner known as James Whisler.  Who he is remains to be seen.  All we know is that he is very important to “The Company”, and that they’re willing to kill Linc’s son LJ and Michael’s girlfriend Sara Tancredi, who they’ve taken hostage.  Oh yeah - Michael has one week (well, now five days) to figure out how to get Whisler out.

I must say, this season is going to be very, very interesting and exciting.  At least they’ve kept some of my favorite characters (Bellick, T-Bag, Mahone, and of course the 2 brothers).  If you haven’t watched this series before, now would be a good time to go out and buy the first and second seasons and get caught up.  It’s going to be a wild ride again this season!
