Bush Administration Planning $20 Billion in Arms to Saudis

I don’t know what to think of this; It really does make me nervous, considering we’re giving this much to an Islamic country that doesn’t really agree with us on a lot of issues, especially Israel and Iraq. I think we should be giving Israel 2-3 times what we give any Islamic country. What say you?

The Bush administration will be asking Congress to approve a $20 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia and neighboring Gulf states despite the concerns of some U.S. officials that the Saudis have been hampering U.S. efforts in Iraq, the New York Times reported Saturday.
The size of the proposed package, which would include advanced weaponry, has made Israel and its supporters in Congress “nervous,” the Times reported. The administration is expecting Israeli supporters and Saudi critics in Congress to oppose the deal when it is formally presented to Congress this fall.
To resolve these concerns, the administration has promised Israel $30.4 billion in military aid over the next decade, and is asking the Saudis to accept restrictions on the “range, size and location of the satellite-guided bombs” and to agree not to store the weapons near Israeli territory, a U.S. official told the Times.

Here’s today’s word of the day…I didn’t post one here yesterday; I’ve got to be more diligent.

1. To give off or reflect bright beams or flashes of light; to sparkle.
2. To exhibit brilliant, sparkling technique or style.

Friday’s feast #153

Appetizer
Describe a toy you remember from your childhood.

My favorite toy was Voltron, Defender of the Universe!  I remember it well, because I took it everywhere I went.  It was the one where you assemble all the separate lions to form the big robot.  I wish they would bring that cartoon back or sell it on DVD!

Soup
On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being highest) how observant are you?

  Hmm.  I would say a 6.

Salad
Where would you rather be at this very moment?

I would rather be at the beach or in the mountains.

Main Course
When was the last time you learned something new?

     Today.

Dessert
Fill in the blank: I have __a bowl of chips___ but I haven’t _any dip___________.

3x Thursday #01: Work Stuff

Since I’m too tired to form any kind of original thought whatsoever, I decided I’d do a Thursday meme.  I haven’t done one yet, so here goes my first one:

1. What is your work ethic hours-wise? Do you think you should be able to put in your 40 hours and go home, or is working 60 hours a week okay to you? Why/why not?

I should be able to do my 40 hours and go home.  Occasionally, there will be a need to work over, and I won’t mind doing that.  But since I’m on a salary, I don’t get paid overtime.

2. Do you believe that work is life or vice versa? Why/why not?

I believe work is life, because everyone has to work to survive.  I do not, however, think it’s the other way around.  There’s so much else to see and to do than work.

3. Do you plan to stay in your current line of work forever? Why/why not?

Right now I do, because I can’t see myself doing anything else.   However, I’m always open for a change of scenery.
