Motorcycle Accident Update: Pickup Truck Driver Admits He Is an Illegal Alien

This is an update to this post.

According to this morning’s news on The Sun Herald, Raymundo Rojas Garcia fled the scene of the accident because he admits “he was an illegal immigrant facing almost certain deportation once he was captured”.  Really?  The government actually deports illegal aliens?  Hmmm….

According to the article I linked to above, Rojas Garcia had a previous run-in with the law:

Gulfport police arrested Garcia, 27, the morning of June 17 on a misdemeanor drunk driving charge and other traffic violations. He was detained overnight and later fined.

If the government deported illegal aliens, then this guy wouldn’t have been able to drive a red Chevrolet pickup with no license, no insurance, and an expired tag and then murder two innocent U.S. citizens.  This just outrages me.  Do you hear me?? I’M OUTRAGED!!

Gulfport Deputy Chief Alfred Sexton said Monday that a hold has been placed on Garcia pending confirmation of his immigration status. However, Sexton said Garcia admitted to police that he was an illegal immigrant. Even so, Sexton said, Garcia likely would face criminal charges here before deportation.

Well, I should only hope so.  This is becoming an all-too-common occurrence, all over the nation.  Some get more national media coverage, and hopefully I can, in some meager way, bring national attention to yet another slaying of U.S. citizens by yet another illegal alien.

Word of the Day: “venerate”

venerate \VEN-uh-rayt\, transitive verb
To treat someone or something with deep respect, reverence or deference; to revere.

Example Sentence: They venerated the same saints, worshipped in the same churches, and respected a past of shared values.
– Miranda Vickers, Between Serb and Albanian

Origin: Venerate comes from Latin veneratus, past participle of venerari, “to revere, to respect, to worship,” from venus, vener-, “charm, loveliness.”

Quote of the Day – June 26, 2007

Perhaps the most valuable result of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not; it is the first lesson that ought to be learned; and however early a man’s training begins, it is probably the last lesson that he learns thoroughly.

Motorcycling Couple Killed in Accident with Hispanic Man

red truckA local couple, from Saucier, Mississippi, was killed Sunday in an accident involving their motorcycle and a red Chevrolet pickup.  Here’s a quote from a local newspaper, The Sun Herald:

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said Wayne Hughes, 45, and wife Michelle Hughes, 48, died shortly after the red Chevrolet pickup that Raymundo Rojas Garcia, 27, was driving pulled out in front of the couple’s Suzuki motorcycle headed north on 49 just before noon Sunday.

Garcia, a witness said, jumped out of his truck and ran off with his passenger and child in tow before authorities captured him minutes later about a block from the accident scene. Gulfport police later charged Garcia with felony leaving the scene of an accident causing deaths. Bond was set at $50,000.

Wayne Hughes tried to avoid hitting Garcia’s pickup, a witness said, but didn’t have time to get out of the way.

Garcia was headed south on 49 and attempting to make a left turn in front of oncoming northbound traffic when the crash happened at 11:32 a.m.

Now the accident remains under investigation.  Hmm…check that name for a second…Raymundo Rojas Garcia.  Anything stand out to you about it?  No?  How about it being a hispanic name?  Now, I don’t want to speculate, but due to the influx of immigrants to our area (per the same newspaper, 15,000 before Katrina vs. 50,000 after Katrina), I would dare say this guy was an illegal alien.  Probably driving without a drivers’ license, too.  Why else would he flee with “passenger and child in tow”?

Just my thoughts…More information as I find out more.

UPDATE (2:44 p.m.):  Here is the Harrison County Sherriff’s Department arrest docket for one Raymundo Rojas Garcia:

Man, no insurance, no driver’s license, and no tag…smells like an illegal alien to me.

World Gone Crazy

In getting an update on the news earlier, I found three articles on people being murdered by family members and one by an (as of now) non-related person - four cases total.  And I’m sure that these are not all.  Three have not been widely reported; one has been reported non-stop.  Here’s the links, if you want to read.  First, let me warn you, you’ll come away depressed:

Man who kills his family in SUV awaiting extradition.

Man drowns his two daughters, then hangs himself.

Nine-month pregnant mom and her unborn baby murdered.

Eight-month pregnant mom and her unborn baby murdered.

What has this world come to?  Who could - in their right mind - murder a woman who is about to give birth?  It just turns my stomach to think there are such cruel, mindless, cold-blooded lower-than-scum people out there.  My prayers are with the Jessie Davis family; they will finally get to have some sort of closure.  As far as I know, the North Carolina woman, Jennifer Nielsen, her murderer has not been found.

And to the truly innocent victims - Chloe Davis and Ethen Nielsen - they never even had a chance to grace the world with their presence and to make their mark on it.  At least they’re with their Lord and Saviour in Heaven.

I say we need to go back to the days of “drawn and quartered” - publicly.  Maybe that would be a good deterrant of these types of crimes.

My 5 Favorite Delectable Dishes - Mundane Monday #03

Okay, the meme for today is five favorite dishes….So here goes:

1.  Lasagna:  My all-time favorite.  I can not get enough of this, especially when it’s made from scratch!

2.  Chicken Spaghetti:  Not just your ordinary spaghetti.   It’s gotta be homemade chicken spaghetti.  (Preferably Sherry’s Chicken Spaghetti.)  There’s just something about the noodles, drenched in melted velveeta cheese swirling around your face as you’re sucking them into your mouth!  Yum!  (I wonder if that earned me a “PG-13″ rating? HA!)

3.  Sirloin Steak:  When I’m in the mood for some meat, this is what I want.  A juicy, hot-off-the-grill, thick sirloin steak.  I prefer them medium well, where they still have a little pinkness and flavor.  Top it off with A-1, and you’ve got yourself a tasty meal.

4.  Chocolate Delight:  The dessert of desserts.  The King of Kreaminess!  Whipped cream, chocolate pudding, graham cracker crust, chocolate shavings, yummmy.  There’s usually a fight over who gets the last bit when this is served!

5.  Root Beer Float:  Simple, yet satisfying!  Give me a frosty coca-cola glass, three scoops of cookies ‘n cream ice cream, soaked and floating in A&W Root Beer (or Barq’s if there’s no A&W).   Best when served on a hot day!

Word of the Day: “jejune”

I haven’t been posting my “word of the day” regularly like I originally planned.  So, I’m using yesterday’s word of the day for today’s.   The word is jejune.  So here’s the def:

jejune \juh-JOON\, adjective:
1. Lacking in nutritive value.
2. Displaying or suggesting a lack of maturity; childish.
3. Lacking interest or significance; dull; meager; dry.

Example Sentence:  By the inflection of his voice, the expression of his face, and the motion of his body, he signals that he is aware of all the ways he may be thought silly or jejune, and that he might even think so himself.
– Jedediah Purdy, For Common Things

Origin:  Jejune derives from Latin jejunus, “fasting, hence hungry, hence scanty, meager, weak.”

My blog rating

Mingle 2

I found this on Jo’s Cafe, and couldn’t pass it up. I guess I’m just not as controversial as other blogs.

Update (1:18 p.m.):  Newscoma had an “R” rating…for saying Dick Cheney’s name??  Go check her response out, guys…Haha!

Cabin Fever!

According to Nashville is Talking, Mrs. Catherine Coble is going to Sevierville for a weekend in a cabin - one of my favorite vacation spots.  Now, I’ve never stayed at the cabin she is staying at, so I’m eager to hear about her experience.  My wife and I go every year with her family and stay at their cabin, and I wish i could be up there right now (we go at Christmas).  All I have to say is, have fun Cat, and eat plenty of BBQ!

I have another form of cabin “fever” right now - I’ve been sick since Wednesday and I’m trying to get over it…not sure what it is, just wish it would go away…Keep me in your prayers, please!  Thanks, and God Bless!
