Making Mistakes

Posted by Eric

Here is an interesting quote that my little daily desk calendar had on it yesterday:

A life spent in making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent in doing nothing.

–George Bernard Shaw

 So true.  If you are making mistakes, that means you’re trying to do something.  It also means you are trying to learn something.  If you don’t do something with your life, you will never learn anything.  Who would want a life like that?

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who are doing nothing with their lives.  They go through the motions, day after day, but with no direction and no destination.  And that is sad.  I hope - for their sake - that they wake up before it’s too late.  Life is just too short.

Farewell, Facebook

Posted by Eric

I have done it.  I have joined the others that have left.  I once thought Facebook was a neat tool, a place where I could keep up with my friends.  But no longer.  Sometimes I like filling out surveys and quizzes, but when I have to send it to 20 or 30 people just to see the results, or I keep getting “notifications” to fill out crap - now that’s where I draw the line.  To me it’s all a bunch of spam!

Well now i no longer have to worry about it as I have deactivated my account.  As soon as I get back home (I’m at work), I’ll email Facebook and tell them to totally delete my account.  I don’t want to “come back”.  I want to forget you altogether.

Farewell, not-so-dear friend.  I never want to see you again.

Editor’s note:  I know I have been away from blogging for a little while.  I have been involved in a massively multiplayer online game known as World of Warcraft.  Why do these games have to be so addictive??

Calling all Port City Bloggers, Part II

Posted by Eric

Since I received some positive response in my previous post, I have decided to register the domain http://portcitybloggers.com.

I am in the process of building the site; If anyone in the Mobile Area would like to be a contributor please let me know.  I am looking forward to building and developing this site.  I truly believe the Mobile area could benefit from this.

Oh, and I’ve already received a very positive e-mail from a food writer here.  Visit his blog at Azalea City!

Calling all Port City bloggers!

Posted by Eric

I am in a quandary.  There is a project I want to do, but I’m afraid of it falling flat on its nose.  I’m wondering if a community site - like Music City Bloggers - would work for the area in which I live.  Mobile, Alabama, is only a thirty minute drive from my house.  I guess you could say I live in Suburbia Mobile (but in Mississippi).  I am wondering - how many Mobile bloggers are out there?

If you’re out there and would like to be a part of something (not quite) unique, post a comment or e-mail me.  I would really like to know if there’s anyone else out there like me in the Port City…

Treason in America - or is it?

Posted by Eric

This guy turns my stomach.  The fact that he is allowed to spew his venom on American Soil makes me angry.

…But could it be considered treason?

Yousef al-Khattab, who runs RevolutionMuslim.com from his home in Queens, told FOX News that he also wants the U.S. to embrace Islam and Sharia Law, which prohibits alcohol and can include stoning to death or severe flogging for pre-marital sex and adultery.

Calling for Sharia Law - in my opinion - sounds like a threat to attempt to overthrow the U.S. government.  That could be very dangerous, and should be considered treason or at the very least, sedition.

In our past, those who tried to incite violence against or overthrow our government were met with quick justice - a short drop and a sudden stop (execution by hanging).  Where have those days gone?  How can we call this freedom of speech?

The Fox News article also states some of the things he has on his web site:

  • The Statue of Liberty, with an ax blade cutting through her side;
  • Video mocking the beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl, entitled “Daniel Pearl I am Happy Your Dead :) “;
  • Video of a puppet show lampooning U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq;
  • The latest speech from Sheikh Abdullah Faisal, an extremist Muslim cleric convicted in the UK and later deported for soliciting the murder of non-Muslims.

Even more surprising is that al-Khattab runs his site from his home in Queens, New York.

Another thing - if he has videos of this Sheikh that was convicted in Britain, I would consider that aiding and abetting the enemy - supporting terrorism.  He should be arrested and tried for that.  That is not patriotism; it is not love of his country.

Why don’t you go ahead and go to Iraq or Afghanistan, Mr. al-Khattab?  We do not want you here.  Go join your friends - then maybe you’ll be met with swift justice from our true patriots - our soldiers.

God bless the USA!
